Hello fellow blog friends. I hope you are all having a splendid 4th of July Eve :) It's always a little hard being away from family on holidays, because Hebdons do it up right. Also, it's kind of hard to feel like it's the 4th of July when you're wearing a hoodie and shivering. I think Rexburg is confused. Anyway, I woke up this morning and walked over to the Rexburg parade and took a few shots. Let me know what you think, please. I'm really trying to build my portfolio so I greatly appreciate any feedback you may have! Also, if you're a mom, what are your feelings about people taking pictures of your child? I got some NASTY looks from some mamas today. Oh well; they'll get over it.

So there you have it. 4th of July Rexburg style. Tonight we're heading to Idaho Falls for some LEGIT fireworks... or so I hear. Apparently they're the 2nd best in the nation. (http://blog.ratestogo.com/best-4th-july-fireworks) So... I'm pretty stoked. I've never gotten good fireworks pictures, but maybe tonight that will be a false statement.

Classic Movie Night

As much as I complain about my photography commitments, I really do get some great opportunities. Like tonight, I shot "Classic Movie Night" on campus. They were showing Harvey, starring Jimmy Stewart. Not sure if you know this about me, but I've always had a thing for him. I believe we were probably best friends in another life. I have this dream of passing on to the other side and I'm greeted by him and we just laugh like we'd never been apart. Aww.. Jimmy :) So beautiful... so goofy.

Unfortunately it started raining 10 minutes before the movie ended, so I never got to see if the 6 foot bunny makes an appearance. Oh well...

Last night I was on the phone with my friend when suddenly I got PUMMELED by my roommate, Julia. Lo and behold, it was midnight. The beginning of my 21st birthday :) I was planning on going to bed within the next few minutes, because life doesn't stop just because you grow a year older. Despite good intentions, I ended up staying up until well after 3am with some crazy girls... playing "beer" pong... naturally. (diet coke, don't stress) Here's a bit of documentation of the night.

Going along with my previous discussion on blogs... Do you NieNie? I don't know if you've ever noticed the icon I have on the right side of this page declaring, "I read NieNie". I've been reading Stephanie Nielson's blog for years now. Since before her accident (if you don't know what I'm talking about, you will from the video). Sometimes if I need a little pick-me-up, I turn to her. I was so excited today when I discovered that her story was made into a "Mormon Message". I admire her greatly.

Again I reiterate, we all have stories to share. Stories that will inspire others. Or make someone smile.

This is just one fantastic example.

Blogging has been on my mind lately. With my Communications degree I'm striving toward, I spend a lot of time on the internets (as Pres. Bush would say) doing research and much of that research comes from ordinary people posting their thoughts and experiences on blogs.

I first entered the blog-o-sphere in 2004. I know right, me=blog pioneer. I was a dorky 15 year old and I'll be honest... felt legit. It was www.peg-a-leg-meg.blogspot.com, a name that was coined to me by my sister's ex-boyfriend. Tonight I spent some time perusing that blog... and was pretty embarrassed for myself. Still, I've never been a great journal-writer, so the documentation was nice. I was left wanting to know more about what was going on at that time in my life. Yet, as my infrequent posts can attest, my enthusiasm quickly fizzled out...

I re-entered the blogging world in 2007 when I began college. Again, I was quite sparse in my posts. It was www.megheb1.blogspot.com.

Now we're onto bigger and better things. www.megheb.blogspot.com. You're there. This will probably be mostly for me. I'm fine with that. I still don't feel like much in my life is that interesting. I don't have a cute husband to tell embarrassing stories about, or adorable children to brag about. I don't have advice on how to be crafty with odds and ends around the house.

I just have me. My thoughts. My seemingly mundane experiences. My weird sense of humor. My interests. And above all, my faith. I'm beginning to realize, however, that these things are worthy of discussion and introspection.

And whoever is reading this... yours are too. So grab some munchies and apple juice and get blogging!

I have neither of those things. I just want them. Instead, I'm settling for my roommate's celery (shh) and the rest of my 100% natural peanut butter. Is it still healthy when you consume such a large quantity?

So, yes. I want to blog more. I want to have a virtual documentation of all things Meg. Yet, lately I have gained more of an understanding, nay, a testimony of the importance of recording those things that are deeply personal. Impressions, revelations, personal thoughts and questions and struggles and short-comings, etc. For once, I made a goal and I'm sticking pretty darn close to it. I've been writing in my journal (mostly) every night. And boy has it made a difference. I just wish I'd started this dedication a long, long time ago. Oh well. Today is a new day. For all of us.

Here's a sobering thought by President Spencer W. Kimball:

"Get a notebook, a journal that will last through all time, and maybe the angels may quote from it for eternity. Begin today and write in it your goings and comings, your deepest thoughts, your achievements and your failures, your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your testimonies. Remember, the Savior chastised those who failed to record important events."

Oh hey... I remember this thing. A few months ago I tried to change some of the settings and layout of my blog, and it went a little crazy. I lost my previous posts for this URL... they can now be found at megheb1.blogspot.com. Weird, I know.

My summer semester here at BYU-Idaho is coming to an end... next Thursday to be exact. I will then be heading back to Virginia for about six or seven weeks, and then it's back here for the fall. It's been a really good semester overall. I have learned tons and worked hard and even got to have a little fun mixed in.

More to come soon... I just wanted ya'll to know that I am still alive.

Where the Hell is Matt??

I absolutely love this video; it makes my heart smile. Just a quick background: this guy, Matt Harding, was a video game designer. After a while he realized that he wasn't gaining anything from this. He then took the money he had made and traveled around Asia. A little more on Matt:

"A few months into his trip, a travel buddy gave Matt an idea. They were standing around taking pictures in Hanoi, and his friend said "Hey, why don't you stand over there and do that dance. I'll record it." He was referring to a particular dance Matt does. It's actually the only dance Matt does. He does it badly. Anyway, this turned out to be a very good idea.

A couple years later, someone found the video online and passed it to someone else, who passed it to someone else, and so on. Now Matt is quasi-famous as "That guy who dances on the internet. No, not that guy. The other one. No, not him either. I'll send you the link. It's funny."

The response to the first video brought Matt to the attention of the nice people at Stride gum. They asked Matt if he'd be interested in taking another trip around the world to make a new video. Matt asked if they'd be paying for it. They said yes. Matt thought this sounded like another very good idea.

In 2006, Matt took a 6 month trip through 39 countries on all 7 continents. In that time, he danced a great deal.

The second video made Matt even more quasi-famous. In fact, for a brief period in July, he was semi-famous.

Things settled down again, and then in 2007 Matt went back to Stride with another idea. He realized his bad dancing wasn't actually all that interesting, and that other people were much better at being bad at it. He showed them his inbox, which, as a result of his semi-famousness, was overflowing with emails from all over the planet. He told them he wanted to travel around the world one more time and invite the people who'd written him to come out and dance too.

The Stride people thought that sounded like yet another very good idea, so they let him do it. And he did. And now it's done. And he hopes you like it.

Matt lives in Seattle, Washington with his girlfriend, Melissa, and dog, Sydney. He hasn't had a real job since Stride called him up. Matt doesn't mind working, but he doesn't much care for having to show up at the same place every day.

Matt is not rich. Matt also doesn't have some magical secret for traveling cheaply. He does it pretty much the same way everybody else does.

Matt thinks Americans need to travel abroad more.

Matt was a very poor student and never went to college. When he got older, he was pleased to discover that no one actually cares. Matt doesn't want to imply that college is bad or anything. He's just saying is all. There's other ways to fill your head.

Matt is left-handed.

When Matt was younger, he could hang seven spoons on his face at once. Sadly, puberty made Matt's face less conducive to spoon-hanging.

Matt's Xbox Live screen name is BadDancer. He plays a lot of Rock Band.

Matt has a little piece of extra cartilage sticking out on the rim of one ear and a little hole in the same place on the other ear. Since saying so on this page, he's been informed that the extra piece of cartilage is called a Darwinian Tubercle. Matt thinks this is pretty much the greatest name for anything ever.

Matt has never lost a staring contest."

Where The Hell is Matt?

You certainly didn't need all of that information, but I for one find it interesting. I would absolutely love to do something like this in my lifetime. When you think about it... we have so many more similarities than differences with our fellow men. I hope I never forget that. I have been inspired by an ex-video game designer with awful dance moves and a love for all children of God.
